Why Go To College?

People go to college for all sorts of reasons. Here are a few practical ones:

Getting Ready - Start Early!

The earlier you start thinking about college, the better. Middle school students can take classes that will help their preparation for college, and high school students must take certain classes in order to enter college. These classes are called prerequisites, and starting in the 9th grade, students need to carefully consider every class in order to make sure they take all the prerequisites needed for the college of their choice.

As a middle school and high school student, it's also good to get involved in activities at school and in the community. Exploring music, sports, art, service, and leadership activities will help you figure out what kinds of things you like to do. These experiences will also make you a more interesting and attractive applicant to college admissions committees.

Of course it's important to study hard. Students need to pay attention to grades and standardized test scores, but not forget to learn for the sake of learning. Those who enjoy learning will love going to college!

Finding the Right College

In order to find the right college, students need to consider all sorts of questions about topics of interest, lifestyle, study habits, and practical considerations. Here are some starter questions:

After answering these and other questions, students can begin researching the colleges and universities that meet their needs and expectations.
