UA Office of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach (CEAO)
The UA Office of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach (CEAO) is one of the main arms of the University of Arizona involved in educational outreach. CEAO shares the intellectual resources of the University with nontraditional and returning students, including children, working adults, and seniors, by offering all sorts of credit and noncredit courses as well as community outreach programs. ACCESS Tucson
Access Tucson provides instruction for producing video on location for students at Amphitheater High School. The is held after school and covers simple camera production techniques, location lighting, story boarding, shooting for editing and non-linear editing.
Amphitheater School District
Amphitheater School District is the second largest school district in Tucson, Arizona. It serves as the educational leader and fiduciary representative of the students for GEAR UP. For more information on the district, click HERE.
Metropolitan Education Commission
The Metropolitan Education Commission is a city-county commission that advocates for educational improvements in Tucson and Pima County. It provides youth leadership opportunities, career fairs, and other career exploration activities for GEAR UP. For more information, click HERE.
University of Arizona Pima County Cooperative Extension (UA PCCE)
The UA PCCE is the Pima County office of the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, which provides outreach services to youth, families, farmers, and organizations in Pima County. For GEAR UP, UA PCCE is working with parents and is sponsor of the La Casa resource center at Amphitheater High School. For more information, click HERE.
University of Arizona Institute for Children, Youth & Families
The UA Institute for Children, Youth & Families is a research and academic outreach institute that addresses the most critical social, emotional, and physical issues important to human development and family relationships. University of Arizona Office of Admissions
The University of Arizona Office of Admissions and New Student Enrollment is committed to recruiting and admitting qualified students to the University. The Office of Admissions sponsors student and parent workshops for members of the GEAR UP cohort. For more information, click HERE.
University of Arizona Office of Early Academic Outreach
The University of Arizona Office of Early Academic Outreach is committed to helping economically disadvantaged and minority middle school and high school students prepare for entry to the University. The Office of Early Academic Outreach sponsors APEX and MESA academic enrichment clubs and organizes campus tours for the GEAR UP cohort.
Project YES
Project YES provides enrichment and support services to youth and families through opportunities and programs that allow for educational, social, recreational, cultural, and spiritual development. Project YES is committed to working with the parents and families associated with GEAR UP.
YWCA
The YWCA of Tucson provides the Bright Futures Leadership Development Series for young women at Amphitheater High School through a series of workshops given each semester. The workshops cover personal development, leadership issues, leadership styles, and training in leadership skills. Each session builds upon and is linked to the previous session and includes a homework component.
The YWCA of Tucson also provides TechGYRLS technology program for 12-16 young women at Amphitheater Middle School. The goal of this program is to broaden girls’ knowledge and interests to help them develop the confidence to use technology tools in whatever profession they pursue. The program raises girls’ interest, confidence and competence in the crucial area of technology, while helping them develop critical thinking and problem solving skill. The girls learn to use technology in ways that are both motivating and compelling to them.
Tucson Writers’ Project
Tucson Writers’ Project recruits GEAR UP students to mentor young children participating in the Y-Journeys With Woods series. This series brings elementary school children from the Jacob’s YMCA After School program to the Woods Library for creative writing workshops with author Marge Pellegrino.
Pima Community College
Pima Community College provides classes in ESOL for parents/guardians of the Amphitheater High School student cohort. Pima Community College also provided classes in GED preparation for parents/guardians of the Amphitheater High School student cohort.
Arizona Youth University
Arizona Youth University is a summer program at the University of Arizona that offers an assortment of opportunities for summer learning, Students from the GEAR UP cohort participate in these programs through full and partial scholarships.
PAWS
PAWS Professional Association of Women in Service provides scholarships for GEAR UP students who are selected to participate in the Arizona Youth University.
Voices for Education
Amphitheater Parent Leadership Institute, sponsored by Voices for Education, is a coalition of parents, educators and community members working together to improve educational outcomes of GEAR UP students. Amphitheater Parent Leadership Institute is working to improve and enhance GEAR UP parent engagement at Amphi High School. This project is intended to provide the participants with the skills necessary to become effective advocates for their children.
Southern Arizona Border Health Careers Opportunity Program
Southern Arizona Border Health Careers Opportunity Program helps develop a diverse health care workforce by fostering and promoting academic excellence and cultural competence among students in underserved border-area populations, from middle schools, high schools, colleges and health professional programs. The GEAR UP students participate in the SABCOP program in order to develop the skills necessary to successfully compete for, enter into, and graduate from health professions training programs.
MESA
MESA (Math Engineering & Science Advancement) is implemented through the UA
Early Academic Outreach Department. This program targets poverty and minority
students who are interested in careers in math, science & engineering.
Arts Bridge
Arts Bridge, a national program, is a collaboration between GU and the UA
College of Fine Arts. The purpose of this project is to build stronger
ties to the community and school through the arts. Seven graduate and upper division
students from the College of Fine Arts work in classrooms with the teachers and
students with a minimum of 30 contact hours per semester.
UA Law School
UA Law School provides second and third year law school students as academic
liaisons for the student cohort at AHS. The law students also conduct a variety
of mock trial and legal presentations for the student cohort. In addition the
Law students also act as tutors/mentors.
