
GEAR UP: A Partnership Project in Tucson, Arizona
GEAR UP is a comprehensive college readiness program serving youth from Amphitheater School District in Tucson, Arizona. This is a GEAR UP partnership program jointly hosted by the University of Arizona Office of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach, Amphitheater School District, the Metropolitan Education Commission, the University of Arizona Pima County Cooperative Extension, the University of Arizona Institute for Children, Youth & Families, and other community partners. In September 2000, the UA Office of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach (CEAO) was awarded a $2.7 million GEAR UP grant from the U.S. Department of Education to fund GEAR UP for five years. GEAR UP is a $5.4 million project, with half of the funds (or $2.7 million) coming from the partners mentioned above and the other contributing organizations.
